New Fountaine Pajot 41: One Small Wave for Man, One Giant Tsunami for the Boating Industry

Following the tremendous success of the Aura 51 and the introduction of the Smart Electric technology (now under the name “ODSea”), Fountaine Pajot has turned its attention to the entry-level model, bringing forward innovation that may surpass even their previous advancements.

There have been significant progressions made on the new Fountaine Pajot 41. At first glance, it resembles a mini Aura 51; upon closer inspection, there are even more clever innovations throughout this new boat.

Smart Electric

The new Fountaine Pajot 41 is available in an all-electric version, featuring electric drives, up to 3,000 watts of solar power (with custom commissioning options fitted by the technical team at ACY Yachts), lithium batteries, and innovative placements for wind and hydro generators. This model is designed to meet the needs of clients seeking the latest in electrical technology within a practical budget.

Performance

Notice how the draft has increased from 3’2″ to 5′? Why? The original goal was to create the shallowest cruiser possible to access bays and inlets where others couldn’t go. Over time, it became clear that any boat with a draft under 6′ could access similar locations. Combined with ongoing feedback about the upwind performance of catamarans, Fountaine Pajot decided to revisit the design.

The new Fountaine Pajot 41 now features deep sacrificial keels that improve upwind performance while still allowing access to the same bays and coves. This, along with an expanded sail plan, a redesigned hull shape (narrow waterline beam with hard chine and flared hull), and other subtle tweaks, positions the new 41 as a true performance cruiser.

Ergonomics

It’s evident that the new 41 is not just a redesign of the Isla or the Astrea, but a completely new architecture. It incorporates improvements and lessons learned from the evolution of Fountaine Pajot models like the Elba, Tanna, Aura, and Thira. The 41 represents the next step in this evolutionary process.

The integrated solar panels are now nearly a standard design and function feature on Fountaine Pajot and check out the new solar panel integration new location—the trampoline. This innovative placement may seem unconventional, but we’re excited to see how it performs. Additionally, the aft cockpit has been redesigned to include a lounge seat on the port transom, bringing design elements from the luxurious Fountaine Pajot Thira 80 down to the 41. The integrated grill on the starboard side eliminates the need for rusty, rattling grills, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

Inside, the style reflects influences from the Aura 51, including the popular open transition from the cockpit to the interior. The central island, a focal point of the layout, is flanked by the galley on one side and the salon on the other, with the aft cockpit adjacent. This layout makes it easy to envision family-style dinners on the island for 6-8 people, with a smooth and uncluttered flow.

Below Decks

The innovation continues below deck. While there was some speculation about moving the owner’s cabin forward—an approach adopted by the new Lagoon 43—Fountaine Pajot chose to keep the owner’s cabin aft. This configuration provides a more comfortable sleeping area while at anchor or in the marina, with less noise from the chain locker, less slapping from the chop against the hull, and reduced overall movement. Although some argue that a forward cabin might be more comfortable underway, many cruisers who have experienced forward cabins in various weather conditions might question this.

The head and shower setup is offered in several configurations on the new Fountaine Pajot 41 to cater to different preferences.

Price

Last but certainly not least, Fountaine Pajot has addressed the significant issue of rising boat prices, which, like many other products, have been impacted by inflation over the past five years. Their solution? Deliver new design and innovation while maintaining competitive pricing. Remarkably, the price of the new 41 comes in 9% lower than the Isla 40! This is a substantial achievement.

While the addition of new options not available on the prior model (the Isla 40) may drive the price up, this is not a fair apples-to-apples comparison. Depending on customization, intended use, delivery location, and applicable taxes, the price of a fully equipped and delivered 41 will range from approximately $750,000 to $900,000, making the New Fountaine Pajot 41 the best value in her class.
