Meet Atlantic Cruising Yachts’ Intern: Baptiste Bardout

Learning Center

Baptiste Bardout is a new face on the docks of Atlantic Cruising Yachts and comes to us from his home country of France. Baptiste was working as the head of sales for a construction company when he decided to make a change, leave behind his steady job, and follow his passions – sailing and the sea. He was inspired by his fond childhood memories of sailing, scuba diving, and fishing with his family. He grew to love the “sound and energy” of the sea.

To prepare himself for the career change, Baptiste attended a one-year Nautical Studies program in France. During this time he completed two internships, one of which brought him to the Paris Boat Show where he crossed paths with Laurent Fabre of Fountaine Pajot. Laurent approached Baptiste about a possible internship with us here in Annapolis, MD and after several phone interviews, Baptiste was offered the position.

Baptiste traveled to America and began his internship on May 17, 2018. For his first two weeks Bill Heflin, our Assistant Commissioning Manager, mentored him on the manual work associated with preparing boats. Currently, he is learning the ins-and-outs of our business operations and client relations protocols. Baptiste has repeatedly expressed how “very happy and positive” his experience here has been so far and emphasized that during previous internships he was not made to feel as welcome.

Baptiste’s goal during the remainder of his internship is to “understand the roots of the company” and learn more about the global yacht industry so that he can better contribute to it.

Some additional fun facts about Baptiste:

  • His first visit to America was when he was 11-years-old and participating in a foreign exchange program.
  • Two of his brothers are sailing instructors.
  • His favorite American food is ribs, which he enjoyed during a Memorial Day barbeque.
