Hurricane Irma Resource Page

Updated 10/6/17

We will continue to update this page as we receive updates from all of our affiliated charter locations. We are happy to report that all of our charter affiliates’ staff are safe and accounted for, and life is beginning to return to normal in the Virgin Islands and Key West. We do know that in time, these beautiful places will recover as they have in the past.  There are many ways to help these wonderful places recover from the storm through donations or simply planning a sailing trip and continuing to support the local economy.

Virgin Islands

The Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas reopened to commercial flights today, September 28, 2017. American Airlines and Delta have one flight each to and from St. Thomas. Cape Air is also expected to resume flights between St. Thomas and St. Croix on Saturday. Travelers should contact the airlines directly for flight schedules.

We are happy to report that all our staff are safe and accounted for. In addition, we were able to perform a cursory inspection this morning and our fleet appears to have suffered no further damage as a result of Maria. We will be making a much more in depth, boat by boat inspection but at this time, we are delighted to be able to share with you that, as during Hurricane Irma, Compass Point Marina has fulfilled it’s role as a safe hurricane hole.

One of our primary cruising grounds, the British Virgin Islands, were spared significant damage due to Maria so they are now able to continue the task of cleaning up and rebuilding without having to start all over. We are receiving more feedback everyday from business owners that their plans to rebuild are already underway.

Please keep the residents of St Croix and Puerto Rico in your thoughts and prayers as they took the full brunt of Hurricane Maria. Both islands have been instrumental in helping St Thomas, St John and the British Virgin Islands begin the road to recovery. Now, we need to stand with them.

Virgin Islands Yacht Charters is working with our charter guests at this point to discuss options for rescheduling some of our September and October charters but we are fully operational and looking forward to a vibrant charter season.

The Abacos were spared Irma’s full impact, and Cruise Abaco has reported all team members safe with little or no impact to the fleet or the islands in general.  We are happy to report that it will be business as usual there for the coming season.

Fort Lauderdale

Our ACY team in Fort Lauderdale has checked in and everyone is safe.  There are widespread power outages and we had some flooding to our office in Fort Lauderdale.  But the boats and docks at ACY came through okay.

St. Petersburg

Sailing Florida Charters and ACY staff in St. Petersburg have all checked in and are safe.  Damage is being assessed, one boat has been heavily damaged at the Vinoy, but the others appear to be okay at this time.  The docks and facilities at the Vinoy are okay, there is more damage in the municipal marina.

Unaffected by Irma, open for business as usual.
