Jeff Lewis, a 100 Gross Ton Master Captain based in St. Petersburg, Florida, has led a life deeply intertwined with the sea and aviation. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jeff’s early years saw him living across the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida. His passion for sailing began at a young age, and by nine, he was already racing sailboats on a Ranger 26’. His skills quickly stood out; in 1976, Jeff became the Texas State Champion and National Runner-up in the Dolphins class, and in 1977, he was honored as the Texas Junior Sailor of the Year.
After graduating in Panama City, Florida, in 1980, Jeff’s adventurous spirit led him to join the United States Coast Guard in June of the same year. His 20-year service was marked by honor and distinction as an Aviation Electronics Technician. Jeff flew as aircrew on HU 25 Falcon Jets and HH3-F Sikorski Helicopters, and he also served as a navigator on C-130 Hercules aircraft. His dedication and expertise in these roles earned him a respected place among his peers, and he retired from the Coast Guard in June 2000.
Following his retirement from the military, Jeff transitioned into a career in aviation electronics, leveraging his extensive technical skills and experience. He worked as an FAA Repair Station Manager, Customer Service Manager, and Program Manager for Baker Electronics in Sarasota, Florida. In these roles, Jeff continued to demonstrate his commitment to excellence and his ability to manage complex technical operations and customer relationships effectively.
In 2008, Jeff combined his love for the sea with his professional expertise to establish On Watch Yacht Delivery. Over the years, he has conducted over 200 successful yacht deliveries, amassing more than 100,000 nautical miles of offshore experience. His reputation for reliability and skill has made him a sought-after delivery captain.
Since 2015, Jeff has been working with Atlantic Cruising Yachts as a preferred delivery captain, conducting numerous deliveries and ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of yachts. His extensive experience and dedication to his craft led to his hiring in July 2023 as a full-time captain with the company.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jeff is a passionate sailor and guitar player. He cherishes his time on the water and enjoys the serenity and challenge that sailing provides. Family is also a central part of Jeff’s life. He is a proud father of three and a grandfather to six, and he loves spending time with his children and grandchildren.
